Ghastly Golfing

As time goes on it gets harder and harder to find new and fun things to do, so every weekend, our family sits down and brainstorms ideas of what we can do to keep our minds off 2020. And the idea we tossed around and decided on was a tryout of Top Golf.
Top Golf is a driving range, or basically bowling, except with a golf ball. When you get there, the people show you to your bay and instruct you to hit your balls in the direction of several large holes on the field. The gameplay is fairly simple, you have eight holes that if you get your ball closer to the middle of the large hole, you get more points, also. the further away the hole is, the whole hole has more points. The only way the points are scored is by a tracker in the ball.
After we heard the rules we were somewhat ready to go except with one problem. None of us have ever golfed before.

So as we started we were acting like goofy little goobers who had never seen a golf club before, but as time went on we got a better idea of the game and actually started scoring points. Dad however was whopping those golf balls to the back of the field at 120 mph! So the rest of us had a hard time getting points. We played two games, Mom won the first game with 76 points, and I won the second game with 48 points. We all had a fun time at Top Golf, and will probably come back for another shot.

Now on a more serious note, about two weeks ago I provided an update on COVID-19, and since then things have worsened. As of August 3rd, 18,500,00 cases and 700,000 deaths have been reported worldwide. In the U.S. about 4,900,000 cases and 160,000 deaths have been reported. In Texas we've reported 462,000 cases and 7,500 deaths, pushing Texas past New York, which was the worst affected state at the beginning of the pandemic. Even here in San Antonio, we've reported 42,000 cases and 350 deaths.

As seen these numbers are increasing drastically and as time goes on this pandemic seems like it'll never end.
This weekend, our family is going on a little getaway, so I'll update my blog soon on that note.

Hurricane Hanna

You know, I don't think 2020 could throw any more misfortune at me. (Jinx!)
This weekend our family was planning on going on a little getaway to Corpus Christi to relax and have fun on the beach. Well, 2020 heard of our plans and decided to throw a hurricane straight at Corpus. So we cancelled our trip to stay home for yet another weekend.
Here's Hurricane Hanna

Besides our failed vacation, all we've been doing is either going to the waterpark at Six Flags or Splashtown.
The wavemaker at Six Flags was malfunctioning.
At home, all of us have been lazy playing video games and watching way too much Amazing Race. Although I got my audition music for The TMEA All-State Band, and the music is fairly challenging, so I've set up virtual lessons with Joe Dixon.
Here's one of my pieces

However, we are going to try to get to Corpus again after the hurricane passes, so maybe, just maybe, you'll be able to read something interesting.

COVID-19 and High School

As time goes on things keep looking worse and worse. School is supposed to start in four weeks and Band camp two weeks sooner. But as the mayor and TEA keep announcing changes, the likelihood of marching band and in-person teaching is quickly fading. The majority of summer has been stuck at home, and we only go out to go to Splashtown or Six Flag's waterpark to cool off. My frequent bike trips have slowed to the heat of summer in Texas. So far in San Antonio, we've almost reached a total of 30,000 cases, and the U.S reporting over 3,7 million cases. I don't know when we'll get past this pandemic, but it looks like normal isn't coming anytime soon.

The Fourth of July

Independence Day this year was a bit different from how we'd normally celebrate our freedom.

As COVID-19 rages on and cancels our trip to Corpus Christi and The Lexington we decided instead of doing nothing on the fourth, we'd do some exciting activities.
We started the day off by spending some time at a friends swimming pool, enjoying burgers and brownies.
After swimming, we dried off and made our way to an escape room in downtown called Anubis. We barely escaped with a minute left. It was a very thrilling room.
This place was also the home of The 13th floor, a haunted house
WE escaped

Then we finished off our appetite with some extravagant fireworks and long sparklers.
A dud, yikes!

Yay America!
